While we don't celebrate it here in the U.S., that hasn't stopped the PlayStation Store from running a Golden Week sale on some very Japanese games in celebration. In Japan, it's Golden Week, that period of time when the bunching up of a bunch of holidays causes virtually the entire country to shut down for fun.
(Last year's "South Park: The Stick of Truth" owes more than a tip of the hat to "Paper Mario.") Though it started out as a sequel to the Square-developed "Super Mario RPG" on the SNES, "Paper Mario" ended up creating a series of its own with faster action-based role-playing. It's not related to "Star Wars," but Nintendo has put its Nintendo 64 RPG classic "Paper Mario" on the eShop for Wii U.There's also a Throwback Pack of the four, plus "Dark Forces," for $30. Included are "Starfighter," "Bounty Hunter," "Episode III" and "Racer Revenge." Each game will normally set you back $10, but for this first week (until May 5), they run only $7.50 each. Not to be outdone, Sony and Lucasarts have released four PlayStation 2 "Star Wars" games for download on the PS3.Not included in either bundle but new to the service are the classic(?) full-motion video rails shooter "Rebel Assualt" and its sequel. The Saber Bundle ($23) includes all four parts of the "Dark Forces/Jedi Knight" saga, plus both KOTOR role-playing games, "Starfighter," "Battlefront II' and the wildly underappreciated "Republic Commando."īoth sales run until the wee hours of Thursday, May 7. TIE Fighter" and "X-Wing: Alliance," plus "Rogue Squadron 3D" and the strategy games "Galactic Battlegrounds" and "Rebellion." The Blaster Bundle ($39) includes the classic "X-Wing" and "TIE Fighter" flight sims, as well as the lesser-regarded follow-ups "X-Wing vs. It's still a few days away on the calendar, but GOG.com has gotten a jump on celebrating Star Wars Day (May 4) with two big bundles of old PC games.
